Red Hawk's Unique Approach Offers Dealers Quality Carts, Accessories and Parts
from One Source!

Baltimore, Maryland is known for its delicious crab cakes, harbor views and charming neighborhoods. But ask people to name golf car industry hotspots and Charm City probably won't top the list. Thanks to Red Hawk, one of the golf car industry's leaders in convenience and expertise, that impression is changing.

Founded in 2001 by cousins John Clough and Gillet Boyce, Red Hawk, LLC has made a name for itself as one of the golf car industry's most unique companies by offering quality wholesale used carts and a complete line of accessories and replacement parts to golf car dealers worldwide. Although just four years young, Red Hawk's golf car industry experience is unmatched.

John Clough has been involved in the golf car industry since 1968 when he founded the Mid-Atlantic Equipment Corporation. Under Clough's leadership, Mid-Atlantic grew into one of the largest distributors of new golf carts in the world. Gillet Boyce, Red Hawk's President, was a top sales representative for Mid-Atlantic and eventually became Operations Manager, overseeing a portion of the $30 million golf cart operation. He brings an additional ten years of experience to the table.

Red Hawk took flight in April 2001 when Clough and Boyce purchased seventy tractor trailer-loads of unconsolidated parts from the Bruedan bankruptcy sale. As the Red Hawk team was busy inventorying the massive acquisition, bankruptcy representatives approached Red Hawk with an opportunity to purchase the remaining inventory of used golf carts. This purchase not only launched Red Hawk's golf cart business, but also established them as a unique entity in the golf cart business a provider of wholesale used carts, accessories, and replacement parts for all major golf cart manufacturers.

The Secret to Success

Part of Red Hawk's success lies in their ability to purchase large quantities of top quality carts at competitive prices. ''Most of our carts are purchased from suppliers in the Northeast United States where carts face a shorter season and absorb less wear and tear,'' said Boyce. ''We'll occasionally buy carts from other regions, but regardless of origin, you can always count on Red Hawk to deliver a top quality product.'' Every cart purchased by the company is brought to their 25,000 square foot warehouse outside Baltimore. A team of golf cart professionals inspects the carts for flaws and accepted carts are mechanically inspected, serviced, detailed, steam cleaned and dressed. Carts that meet Red Hawk's rigid standards are rated on condition and placed in the company's huge wholesale inventory. A recent visit to their facility found three acres of gas, electric, stretch and utility carts being readied for sale.

Jack Clough, John's son, joined Red Hawk in October of 2003 after working as an institutional wholesaler for Janus Capital Group in Denver, CO. When asked about his role on the Red Hawk team, Clough told us that he is ''busy developing new business and maintaining existing relationships with dealers all over the country.'' He continued about Red Hawk, ''we've created something great by focusing our efforts on what we know best. By staying away from the retail business we can concentrate on the golf cart dealers and how we can help add value to their business.''

The Parts Pros

As the original liquidation purchase began to dwindle, Gillet and John knew they would need to find suppliers to fill the parts and accessories needs of their new customer base. Later that year they completed their product line by becoming distributors for Santiago Golf Car Supply, ITP Tires, NGK Spark Plugs and others.

In addition to finding part and accessory suppliers, Red Hawk also offers products from a growing line of private label merchandise. Launched in 2004, these products manufactured specifically by Red Hawk include their own high-quality windshields, utility boxes, headlight kits, lift kits, diamond plate accessories and more.

The unique design of the Red Hawk utility boxes lets dealers use OEM struts on all makes and models except Club Car old style. A universal mounting kit works for both the company's powder-coated steel and diamond-tread aluminum boxes, letting dealers stock a full range of boxes without taking up valuable inventory space.

Red Hawk windshields are available in high-quality, high clarity acrylic in both one-piece and split designs. Dealers looking to dress up their cars with rugged diamond plate accessories need look no further. Red Hawk offers a full line of aluminum running boards, rocker panels, front shields, axle covers, and steering column covers. Boyce promises more private label items for 2005. ''We're currently putting the finishing touches on new products that will be available this spring,'' he said. ''We've reached an agreement with D&D Motors to distribute their line of high performance golf cart motors. We're also adding a new line of tires and wheels, new and improved stationary and flip flop seat kits, new aftermarket carburetors, spark plugs and more in time for our spring catalog.''

More than just a part and accessory supplier, Red Hawk also offers customers the extensive experience of industry professionals. Steve Otto, a former Mid-Atlantic employee, brings extensive golf cart knowledge and a keen sense of customer service and attention to detail to his role as Service Manager. Otto is supported by up to 20 golf cart specialists who preventively maintain, repair, clean, and prepare the wholesale carts for sale.

A veteran of the parts business, Joe Antlitz brings a strong sales and customer-oriented focus to his role. He and saleswoman Donna Mayeski help customers select the correct parts and accessories for their carts. ''Shipping products on the day they're ordered means a lot to the dealers and has earned us a strong customer base'' said Antlitz. Mayeski agreed and said, ''Our goal is 100% customer satisfaction.'' Team members at all levels of the company are supported by Karen Parks, the company's Controller, Rhonda Cadorette in purchasing, and Warehouse Manager Don Mauldin. ''An investment in quality employees lets us manage the existing business and allow for continued growth,'' Boyce commented.

The Sky's the Limit

For a company that began just four years ago, Red Hawk has made major strides towards becoming an industry leader. Boyce credits this growth to an ongoing theme at the company. ''We continually think about our customers' needs,'' he proudly stated. ''Every day we ask ourselves how we can we add value to our customers' business.''

''At Red Hawk,'' he concluded, ''we truly believe the sky's the limit.''
