FSIP proudly celebrates 50 years!
Now serving the electric vehicle market with their corporate location in Carlisle, PA and a second facility in Addison, IL Flight Systems Industrial Products is proud to celebrate 50 years of commitment to their customers.
In its early years, FSIP was heavily involved in the aerospace industry, designing and manufacturing solid state controls for aircraft and runway strobe lights. During this time Flight Systems earned its reputation as a highly qualified supplier while their products were used on various space crafts and launch vehicles including Apollo 8, 9, 11, 15 and 16 along with Skylab I and II.
In 1999, the company was renamed Flight Systems Industrial Products and in 2003 relocated to a larger building, and has since completed two building expansions to support business growth. FSIP’s focus has evolved over the decades to serve a niche in the electric vehicle market which includes material handling equipment, golf cars, cleaning equipment, electric boats, go-karts and ground support equipment. Their strong OEM relationships and technical competencies allow them to offer a variety of quality products for these markets including the remanufacturing and small run manufacturing sectors, along with new product distribution.
As an ISO 9001:2015 supplier they offer over 9,000 remanufactured, 2,000 manufactured and 1,000 distributed part numbers. FSIP’s remanufactured products supply the aftermarket industry with a cost savings over new, and an alternative to support equipment that uses electronic parts at risk of becoming obsolete. FSIP points out that remanufacturing a product is different than having it repaired. Completing a repair means fixing a component that has failed and generally, this does not address other components that may have been affected by the failed component. The FSIP process replaces failed and stressed components, while upgrading the product to the current OEM revisions, when applicable. With many remanufactured products on the shelf ready to ship the same day or the option to send product in with a fast turn-around time, FSIP provides many alternatives to meet customer needs.
FSIP also works with OEMs to provide the industry with small run manufactured parts to prevent more products from going obsolete. In 2010, FSIP acquired certain assets of General Electric’s motion control business, now manufacturing their controls and parts for electric vehicles. In addition to manufacturing, FSIP also provides engineering and application design work to numerous industries, assisting vehicle manufacturers during a new design or the upgrade process of their existing product line.
Barry Bowman, the President of FSIP, states “being here for 34 years and serving as the president for 21 years I can definitely say that it is our loyal customer base that has allowed us to grow from 21 employees to over 100 and from $1.5M in yearly revenue to $20M. I also attribute our success to the people I work with. They’re a great bunch and without them my job would be a lot more difficult.”
FSIP Keeps Your Golf Car Moving!
From controllers, to motors, to battery chargers FSIP offers a variety of products to keep your golf cars moving. Since 1999, FSIP has been widely known, throughout the golf car market, as a supplier for remanufactured controllers. During these 19 years they have grown while expanding their OEM relationships.
In 2005, they established an agreement with Curtis Instruments Inc. to be their exclusive authorized remanufacturing center. This relationship played an integral part in FSIP’s golf car market growth, due to the Curtis Instruments Inc. position as a leading provider of golf car controls. In 2009, FSIP committed to additional growth in the market and began using their expertise to develop and introduce more performance related products. Along the way, they recognized a need for DC conversion kits to upgrade or replace a car’s current system and later added an AC version. One of their next focuses was developing a portable universal battery charger, called the ChargePlus. For this project they worked with S.P.E. Elettronica Industriale and soon released the universal golf car battery charger with unique features. Later, they combined their engineering expertise and history and developed their own torque and speed golf car motors.
In 2016, FSIP focused attention to the battery maintenance needs of the market and became the exclusive North America distributor for the Xtender, which is an all-in-one machine to analyze, desulfate, restore and maintain batteries. They now have a sales team devoted to this product, to promote and train customers to properly operate the equipment, for maximum benefit. They are also eager to announce, that the first half of 2018, they will be introducing a portable battery discharger for the golf car market.
FSIP not only designs products for the golf car market, but they have also partnered with many of the leading OEMs in this market, to act as a distribution channel for their products. The products include controllers, battery chargers and maintenance products, solenoids, DC/DC converters, battery state of charge displays, test equipment, foot pedals and throttle assemblies as well as other small accessories.
FSIP’s customer service team is highly trained on their products to make ordering easier for the customer, and their technical team is available M-F from 8:00-5:00 pm ET to assist with technical troubleshooting. 2017 brought exciting changes to FSIP with a recent building expansion project and a new business management software system that has streamlined the customer service process. In addition the software will allow FSIP to introduce an ecommerce site in the first quarter of 2018, which will make ordering a “snap” for their customer base. Visit www.fsip.biz to learn more!
