United Commercial Upholstery Inc. (UCU Inc.), the manufacturer of the Suite Seats line of custom golf car replacement seats, is expanding their product line and options. Chris Vorwerk, the designer of the original Suite Seat in 2005 that created the custom golf car seat industry reflects: “When we released the original Suite Seat, there was nothing like it anywhere in the market. It set the standard by offering custom color combinations, custom embroidery options, and availability for all of the major golf cart brands as a bolt-on upgrade while maintaining a great combination of comfort, quality, and value. While the standard Suite Seat remains a great value, consumers are becoming more sophisticated and are demanding more options, more premium material choices, and more finishing options such as double top-stitching, diamond tufting, and other pleating options. And they don’t want to have to wait to get their seats.”
In response, Suite Seats has introduced a number of new options for their dealers when ordering Suite Seats. The first was the introduction of the Quick Ship line of Suite Seats. The Quick Ship line is a selection of popular Suite Seat color combinations that are pre-built and on the shelf rather than seats built to order. Most Quick Ship line seats ship within 1 business day of being ordered, along with all Quick Ship orders getting hot tracked through the production facility. Jim Templin, sales director for Suite Seats, offers: “I love having the Quick Ship line of Suite Seats as an option I can offer to dealers. I understand when a dealer calls and needs a Suite Seat to finish a golf car and deliver to an impatient customer. Sometimes people just can’t wait.”
Another step was to create a new option for Suite Seats, the Luxury Edition. Based on the Touring Edition Suite Seat, each Luxury Edition seat comes configured with head rests and flip up armrests. But beyond that comes the important differences. Marie Hort, Business Development Director at UCU explains: “We have been watching the burgeoning marine market and how the demand for higher quality materials, finishing, and styling has evolved. Pontoon boats were once built for price points and had strict limitations on material costs. Now, consumers are demanding more exclusive high end materials and cost has become more of a secondary concern. Working with our prototyping department, which is heavily involved in designing marine furniture, we selected Ultraleather for the Luxury Edition seating. This marine grade polyurethane fabric has a very soft and sumptuous feel. Combined with a high end High-Resiliency foam the comfort is unbelievable. And these high grade materials will maintain that feel long term. In addition, each Luxury Edition seat comes with double-diamond tufting and double top stitching to give these seats a high end appearance fitting of the quality inside. By limiting the color selection of the seats we were also able to offer the Luxury Edition as a Quick Ship item.”
In order to accommodate the Quick Ship offerings and to reduce lead times for the entire product line UCU recently completed the addition of 20,000 square feet to their production facilities. The additional space made it possible to create separate, dedicated lines for Suite Seats products and for marine products.
