Keep It Rolling

Prep Tips For The Spring & Summer Months

It is finally that time of year to pull your golf car out of storage and get it ready for the spring and summer months of outdoor fun. But, before you hop on and cruise around, here are some tips to make sure that your golf car is in tip top shape for the warm weather.

1. Check the Tires

Making sure that your golf car tires have the ideal pressures can extend the life of the tires and ensure an even tread wear. Ideal pressures also make for a smoother ride. It is important to check tire pressures regularly and maintain proper air pressure. The tire’s side wall will have the ideal pressure printed. Usually the recommended pressures are between 15 and 25 psi. Keeping your tire pressure on the low recommended side provides more traction and a smoother ride; however, tires will wear out faster.

2. Suspension

Check underneath the golf car for any oil leakage coming from the strut. Make sure all seals are tight. Look for missing hardware or damaged bushings and replace everything that appears to be worn or weather damaged.

3. Golf Car Batteries

Check golf car batteries for corrosion. Notice whether there are any cracks in the battery case. Disconnect all cable clamps and use a battery post and terminal clamp cleaner to clean out the battery terminals as well as the insides of the clamps. Once you reconnect the clamps and to the corresponding terminals, spread a thin coating of petroleum jelly over the clamps. Then check voltage with a voltometer.

4. Cosmetic Cleaning

Hopefully your golf car was stored under a protective cover. If your golf car is showing signs from the harsh winter, clean it up with a protective restoration product like Renew Protect. Clean surfaces of your golf car and protect from any future damage. Restore black plastics to a rich black color and return bodies to their original color. Clean up tires and make them shine.

5. Gas Golf Cars

If you own a gas golf car, the engine will need to be inspected every six months. Spark plugs should be replaced every three years and fuel and air filters should be changed yearly. If the drive belt is showing signs of cracking, it is time to replace it.

Following these tips will get your golf car ready for the warm months and will also extend the life of your golf car and avoid costly repairs.
